As someone who is concerned about their health, I eat very well with tons of fruits and vegetables and exercise at least four times a week, I know the many benefits of sushi. It is a dish I eat often and I try my best to steer clear of anything tempura, even though it is lighter than most fried options you would find elsewhere. Health benefits can be found in everything from the fatty acids in fish, to the seaweed nori it is rolled in and the cucumbers and avocado used to fill rolls. If you ask, many places will serve it with brown rice as well, though in my mind it sometimes does not stick the same so that choice is up to you.
I was surprised to read an article recently naming some high fat, sugar packed, places to eat an unhealthy meal to include a sushi restaurant. I thought my favorite food was getting a bad rep, but that was not the case. The article showcased a popular place, Yo! Sushi, but the dishes listed as unhealthy were not sushi at all! The dishes featured included chicken teriyaki, which is drenching in the sugary sauce and a dessert of lemon shortbread cake. So my friends do not be deceived, everything you have heard about sushi is true. Just stay away from rolls covered in sauces, some are alright but you should try to limit or avoid anything that has to word mayo in it, and keep away from ordering everything tempura and you will be fine.
